Even though composite is known for being low-maintenance, the truth is: it doesn’t clean itself. In this blog, you’ll discover what it takes to keep a Diresco composite kitchen countertop in top condition. We promise: the list is short.
1. Consider the finish
Diresco composite is available in three different finishes: .
- Poli: glossy finish and non-porous surface
- Velvet: matte finish and non-porous surface
- Anticato: rough finish and more porous surface
The Poli and Velvet finishes are ready to use from day one. They don’t require an additional protective layer thanks to their closed, non-porous surface.
The Anticato finish, however, does require treatment with a suitable product before use. Its rougher surface is more porous and therefore more sensitive to fingerprints or stains. This treatment is done in advance by the stone mason. From then on, maintenance is identical to Poli and Velvet finishes.
2. Daily maintenance: simple but essential
A clean microfiber cloth, clear water, and Diresco Mineral Surface Cleaner (or alternatives like Akemi Crystal Clean, Lithofin Easy Clean, or Moeller HMK 305) are the golden trio for cleaning your countertop:
- Spotted a stain? Clean immediately with water and a damp microfiber cloth;
- Dry with a clean kitchen towel to prevent limescale and dull spots;
- Diresco Mineral Surface Cleaner is recommended for daily use to keep the surface in top shape;
- Using dish soap? Better not. It can leave a film or patina that makes the surface dull and more stain-prone;
- If a film or patina does appear over time, a deep periodic clean will help (see below).
3. Periodic cleaning: shield against stubborn stains
Over time, soap, grease, or limescale can form a patina layer. Time for a deep clean. The following specialized products are recommended:
- Akemi Quartz Intensive Cleaner
- Lithofin MN Power-Clean
- Moeller HMK R185
These products remove deeper dirt without damaging the surface.

4. Best kept far away
Not every product is suitable for keeping Diresco mineral composite in top shape. Avoid:
- Abrasives, scouring pads, and magic sponges
- Solvents like acetone or white spirit
- Aggressive chemicals like oven cleaners or drain openers
- Products with a pH lower than 3 or higher than 10
And what about hot pans? Composite can handle direct contact with temperatures up to 160°C. Still, we recommend avoiding it. Like any other countertop material, thermal shock can cause cracks or permanent discoloration.
5. Don’t push the limits
Composite is impressively durable and can take a lot – even heavy use. Still, it’s important to treat your worktop wisely every day. That means: don’t cut directly on the surface, don’t place excessively heavy objects on it, always test new cleaning products in an inconspicuous spot… That way, your worktop will retain its quality and appearance even after five, ten, or twenty years.
